Photography Observations - April

Last April (just in time for Joel's birthday!) I received my DSLR camera. Being such a large investment, James gave it to me as an "annual present" in the place of gifts for Mother's Day, my birthday and Christmas. Happy days followed. As we came up on the same time this year, I floated the idea of doing something like that again--one large item that I'd really like to have, instead of several smaller things throughout the year. James was onboard, so earlier this month a special package arrived in the mail:

Canon EF-S 55-250mm STM f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens
You should have seen me: I was seriously like a kid at Christmas when it came. For the past year, I've been photographing with the kit lens for my Canon Rebel SL1, which is an 18-55mm zoom lens. While perfect for many shots, I have been feeling increasingly limited by the range. I did a TON of reading and checking around. There are TONS of options when it comes to lenses, and a huge range in price. After much debate, I ultimately settled on this lens as my next piece of photography equipment.

So my focus this month has been experimenting and learning my way around with this new lens. All the shots below were taken with the 55-250mm lens. Lots of fun so far!

In addition to my lens, I was also experimenting with B&W and exposure this day. Kinda weird, but I like it!

Belly button!

Naturally, still taking lots of photos of my kids. However, we're headed to Utah for a few weeks, and I'm looking forward to having more friends and family to capture. :)
